When it comes to the speeches on the big day, sometimes you need to consider the bride and maid of honor speeches together.

For me and the bride, we didn’t want to spoil the surprise by writing out speeches together. But we did think that it might be a good idea to have a chat and figure out the direction we wanted our wedding speeches to go in.

Deciding on Who Says What

When it comes to any kind of speech, whether the brides wedding speeches or the groom wedding speech, it can help to get your stories straight and make sure that every single speech isn’t repeating the other. This is why discussing bride and maid of honor wedding speech ideas with your other half is a good idea.

Not all bride and maid of honor will do separate speeches. Perhaps only one of you is doing a speech, or maybe you even want to address it together! If you still haven’t decided then I recommend you have a good discussion before moving onto the next steps.

Coming Up With the Perfect Speeches

Once you’ve decided it’s a good idea to talk to the bride and ask whether she’s preparing a speech herself. Chances are that you will both have a few of the same ideas.

One option is to decide to cover different topics. Or the same topics like how the bride and groom got together – but from different points of view. This can make for exciting, funny, yet still poignant maid of honor wedding speeches that your guests will love!

Finding bride and maid of honor wedding speech ideas together isn’t always done, but I think sharing some ideas – while still keeping the speeches private until the big day – can be really inspiration. Better still, check out some speech examples to really help your speech be what you want it to be!

One of the most important elements of many wedding speech is that it must be funny. It doesn’t all need to be funny, but funny maid of honor speeches are a great crowd-pleaser – so long as they are still poignant all the same and don’t offend anyone.

Even though I wanted to be funny, I still kept it in my head that it had to be respectful. The mother of the bride had her own speech, so I wanted to thank her for that and not tread on her toes and insulting her or her daughter! Goodness only knows how any of those kind of jokes would have gone down!

The Secret to Good Speech Humour

The use of humour in my own wedding speech really helped to make sure that everyone kept listening properly. I used it at different times as a way of grabbing attention and making sure they were focused. In any toast, the groom should be the centre of attention and keep it that way, as well as directed onto her groom, of course!

The best way to use this tactic in my experience is to interject your regular speech with a few good jokes. Say emotional things, then add a little humour to keep everyone relaxed and focused. I was pretty nervous and emotional, so this also really helped me as well as the audience!

Another great funny maid of honor speeches tip I learned is to be informal and interact with the audience. This isn’t a lecture – it’s a toast! The maid of honor should always feel like they are having a conversation with old friends, which largely will be the case.

Make eye contact with the audience, and don’t fix your gaze in one direction constantly. I found that practicing with friends really helped me to improve this technique before the big day.

When it comes to funny maid of honor speeches these tips will get you off on the right foot. For an even better idea, try using a few wedding speech examples.

Maid of honor wedding speech examples are something that I, unfortunately, didn’t make use of until the last minute. But even if you are in the same situation as I would – I wholeheartedly recommend these as a way of avoiding writers block and ensuring you get everything right for the big day.

Finding Examples and Still Being Unique

The great thing about many maid of honor wedding speech examples is that they are designed to let you fill in the blanks and still create a totally unique wedding speech.

They usually work by giving an example setup and layout, and prompts on things to say including:
• People you should thank,
• Stories you can tell,
• Your feelings about the big day,
• Maid of honor wedding speech jokes,
• The bride’s and groom’s personality,
• Ways of getting the audience involved.

These are just some of the elements that the wedding speech examples I found included. Though I had read in many places what successful elements maid of honor wedding speeches should include, having them there in an ordered layout meant I couldn’t go wrong.

Another thing that examples of maid of honor speeches really helped me with was to know how to stick to the point without the guests getting bored. The maid of honor speech is obviously an important part of the day, so you shouldn’t worry about keeping it too short. Then again, you also don’t want to ramble on about one topic for too long. Sticking to a rough speech layout is what stopped me from doing this.

If you’d like some groom wedding speech examples to help then I’d recommend going on the internet like I did. You should be able to find one that suits you, and the best examples will also give you tips on how you can make that speech completely unique and unforgettable.

Maid of Honor Toasts – Don’t Say the Wrong Thing!

When it comes to pleasing people, forgetting to thank someone is one thing – but saying the wrong thing altogether in maid of honor toasts could be a complete disaster! Thankfully I really wanted to avoid this, so looked up a number of great tips to help you avoid this embarrassing situation.

Pleasing the Bride and Groom

One of the worst things you could possibly do is to start talking about any previous relationships. It might seem obvious, but believe me there are people that do it! Even if you want to compare the wedding couple favorably, most likely they will not appreciate it – especially on the most important day of their life!

You should also speak favorably of the bride and groom at all times. Though it may seem fitting to add a slightly teasing joke, this is not the right situation for it. In my speech I stuck to what I knew the bride and groom would want me to say, and it worked!

Alcohol

No matter how well you might have prepared your speech (probably better than I did!) your number one worst enemy could be alcohol. This has the potential to bring just about anyone down, making them say the wrong thing. I was really wary of this and decided to hold off much drinking until the speech was over. I’m glad I did!

A Few Other Tips

One thing that made the idea of maid of hono speeches stressful to me was the fact I didn’t plan ahead. And not planning ahead means being in a lot less control of what you say. Luckily there are now plenty of sources of help online for those who want even a funny wedding speech that doesn’t offend anyone.

Lastly I want to say that, no matter how well you say things, going on for too long isn’t going to go down well. Try to work on your speech so it doesn’t take an hour to deliver!

Unfortunately the maid of honor wedding speech isn’t a completely free piece of writing – it is there as a way to make sure you don’t leave anyone out. It took me a long time to realize, but basically it’s about keeping everyone happy to ensure your wedding day goes perfectly!

Thanking The Right People

One of the first things I incorporated into my maid of honor speech was to thank just about anyone who had got me to where I was on that wedding day. Whether that was the bride, the groom, everyone who gave me advice – I made sure to thank them. And don’t forget the bride’s wedding speech! She will often have something to say about you, so it pays to have something positive to say about her. Always thank her first and foremost before continuing with the rest of the speech.

Mentioning Her Family

I thought it would be best to start my maid of honor speech with a story about how I met the beautiful bride. This always goes down well, and is a great crowd-pleaser for all of those who have made such an effort to be there on your big day.

Next, I will try to add in anecdotes or praise of her family. After all, this is an important occasion and probably the best chance to show the special people in your life what they mean to you. Even if they didn’t directly help with the wedding, they still played an important part in their life as a whole.

Remember, the wedding day is about the love for the bride and groom, but it’s also about having family and friends around. Even though I was really nervous about my maid of honor wedding speech, it didn’t take me long to realize that it isn’t too hard to please everybody if you’re careful!

My Maid of Honor Wedding Speech Planning

I always knew that when my best friend decided to get married I would have to write a maid of honor wedding speech, but I never knew how important that speech was going to be! The truth is that I left it for weeks and weeks before I even realized that I was going to have to get down to it and actually write the thing.

My advice about that? Don’t make the same mistake I did. Plan ahead if you can!

When you first start thinking about your maid of honor speech it can seem like a really challenging task. After all, there is already so much going into standing up in front of everyone and saying those vows, standing up again and making a speech is pretty nerve-wracking!

As the date got closer and closer I tried to think of an inspirational, yet charming and hilarious groom’s wedding speech and it just wasn’t coming to me. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.

Now, believe me when I say that there are more efficient ways to plan a maid of honor wedding toast, but this was great for kick starting my ideas.

At first it was difficult, but when I started using speech prompts and guides I soon started to jot down little bits of information about me and the bride. Where we met, how long we’ve been together, some of our most memorable moments – things like that. It really helped me to put into words the story of our relationship and what we’ve been through to get where we are now.

At this stage I think it’s best not to worry about the order or the content of what you’re writing (or any wedding speech jokes!) The biggest block to getting the perfect wedding speech is never actually starting to write it! So by jotting down my thoughts I was already over the first major hurdle for my maid of honor wedding speech.
